Speaking on Dr Ofweneke's show, a visibly emotional Gituro recalled how she summoned the courage to visit her ailing father at a time when she was already an established face in the Kenyan entertainment scene, featuring on the popular Tausi TV show and working in radio.
What did Joyce Gituro say about dad?
"By that time I was a star - I was on the Tausi TV show and doing radio," she said, setting the scene for what would become a deeply personal confession.

Gituro explained that despite not knowing the root of the tension between them, she felt compelled to make peace. Being the 23rd born to her father and the fifth born to her mother, she found the estrangement particularly puzzling.
"I really wanted to know why a 23rd born and a fifth-born in my mum had issues with him," she said.
"If I was the first or last maybe."
She told her mother she wanted to reconcile and went to her father seeking forgiveness. His response, however, was devastating. "He told me to get out. He said just go," she recounted.
Her mother tried to soften the blow, suggesting he might have been in pain at the time. "My mum always found a way to protect me from the hurt," Gituro said.
She also shared another difficult memory from a Christmas visit to the village, where her father questioned why she had come.
She arrived on the 23rd of December, only to be made to feel unwelcome.
While her siblings celebrated the holiday with their father, Gituro quietly left with her daughter and spent the time at her niece's home.
Notably, her father showed no such coldness towards the grandchildren, playing with all of them without distinction, including her daughter.
What continues to weigh heavily on Gituro is that her father passed away without ever offering her clarity on why their relationship was so strained.
"For me, my dad dying without telling me why we had issues brings lots of regret," she said.
