Erika Guevara-Rosas, Amnesty International’s Senior Director of Research, Advocacy, Policy and Campaigns, has warned about masked Israeli settlers attacking Palestinian farmers as the annual olive harvest begins.
In a post on X early Tuesday, October 20, Guevara-Rosas wrote that settlers were attacking farmers, burning trees, stealing people’s livelihoods, and terrorizing entire communities.
The Amnesty International official said Israeli settlers had also attacked diplomats and journalists.
“Let’s stop pretending that these are the actions of a few extremists. This violence is enabled, supported and protected by an active system designed to entrench illegal occupation, apartheid and the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians,” she said.
Guevara-Rosas called on countries to take concrete steps to address the violence, including avoiding complicity, banning trade with settlements, imposing targeted sanctions, halting arms transfers, and supporting international justice.
