POSCO Future M (003670.KS) is teaming up with Palantir Technologies, a leading U.S. artificial intelligence software company, to drive an "AI transformation" across its battery materials manufacturing and sales operations. The plan is to link and analyze scattered data in real time for faster decision-making and to build an "AI-native" system in which AI leads every stage of work, securing global competitiveness.
POSCO Future M said on the 22nd that it signed a contract the previous day to adopt Palantir's Foundry, a data operations and analytics platform, along with the Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP), which combines Foundry with generative AI. Foundry builds an integrated operating system based on big data, while AIP adds generative AI to support the introduction and use of AI agents within the organization.
POSCO Future M views cooperation with affiliated partners as becoming as important as materials performance in the secondary battery industry, and in July it unveiled a digital innovation vision called "Battery of Things (BoT) Ecosystem Game Changer." Since August, the company has been pursuing core business reform through a company-wide process innovation-based AI transformation project.
Starting with this contract, the company plans to first apply Palantir's solutions to its sales and marketing division to upgrade customer response and collaboration. It will then verify results before gradually expanding the scope to manufacturing innovation and company-wide innovation.
The company aims to raise customer response capability in sales and marketing by more than 60% through AI-based manufacturing innovation, lift manufacturing productivity by 30% and halve product development time. Over the medium to long term, it plans to build a platform that will lead standards for the battery industry ecosystem based on data accumulated from production through sales, creating new business opportunities.
POSCO Future M is also working to establish a culture of AI use among employees through an in-house AI festival and training programs to develop AI specialists. Outstanding cases selected at the festival will be rolled out to work sites in stages by the first half of 2027 after field testing and the collection of employee feedback, while 87 specialists who completed the training are identifying inefficiencies in their own work and leading improvements.
