Feeling “abandoned” by the Psychiatric Hospital, a 62-year-old broke in and stole over $370 in food and other items.
“They turned against me, so I turned against them,” Clent Antonia Decosta Rock, of no fixed address, told Magistrate Jared Richards as he pleaded guilty to burglary in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court.
He admitted that between September 30 and Oct 1, he trespassed on the clinic and stole milk, tea bags, tins of tuna, bottles of peanut butter, hot dogs, rice, luncheon meat, packs of oatmeal, noodles, biscuits, sugar, pairs of slippers, puzzle sets and doilies, property of the State totaling $373.15.
Police Constable Troy Tudor told the court that several cameras monitoring the compound recorded Rock jumping over the hospital wall and proceeding to the clinic, where he found an unsecured window and climbed inside. He placed the items in a shopping bag he had brought with him.
He was caught after leaving the compound.
Rock was sentenced to six months at Dodds Prison.
