Jakarta (ANTARA) - Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni inspected forest and land fire response in South Kalimantan, saying hotspot numbers had declined and the province recorded the lowest count in Kalimantan.
Raja Juli visited a fire site in Liang Anggang Protected Forest, Banjarbaru, with South Kalimantan Governor Muhidin on Monday, according to a statement issued in Jakarta.
“As of today, South Kalimantan has the lowest hotspot count in Kalimantan. Central and West Kalimantan remain challenging, but that must not make us complacent,” Raja Juli said.
The minister inspected fire-affected areas and reviewed firefighting efforts on the ground.
He thanked everyone involved in the response, including central and local governments, provincial police and military officials, community fire groups, fire brigades, and volunteers.
Citing the Forestry Ministry’s Sipongi data, Raja Juli said South Kalimantan had the fewest hotspots in Kalimantan but warned authorities not to let their guard down.
As of 11:59 p.m. local time on October 11, Sipongi recorded 519 hotspots across six priority provinces. Central Kalimantan had 199, down from 288 the previous day.
South Kalimantan’s count fell to 15 from 28, while West Kalimantan’s rose to 68 from 44. South Sumatra recorded 223 hotspots, Riau 14, and Jambi none, prompting continued vigilance and coordination.
“I urge everyone to maintain cooperation and unity on the ground. We must do our utmost to ensure the fires are brought under control,” Raja Juli said.
