Yemen's armed forces killed and wounded dozens of Saudi officers and allied fighters in missile strikes on a Saudi-run base in eastern Yemen, the group's spokesman Yahya Saree said on October 19.
The claim, confirmed by IntelliNews monitoring earlier on October, comes as Saudi officials have yet to comment on the incident. The strike comes amid an uneasy, frequently broken truce between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, with fighting flaring up again in recent months as the group steps up attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and on positions inside Yemen.
Saree said the strikes targeted the Al-Alim base in eastern Yemen, staffed by Saudi officers, and that six ballistic missiles hit Saudi positions in the Al-Saqiya and Ras Al-Arah areas. He said the missiles struck their targets precisely, killing and wounding dozens of people and destroying several military vehicles.
The Houthi official gave no exact casualty figures and named no Saudi units. Yemen's war has produced competing and unverifiable death tolls since Saudi Arabia and its allies intervened in 2015 to restore the internationally recognised government after the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa.
Houthi media has been the main source of battlefield information from territory under the group's control for a decade, and its casualty claims are rarely confirmed by the Saudi side.
Saree also warned Yemenis against helping the Saudi government act against their own country.
"The missiles precisely hit their targets, leaving dozens dead and wounded and destroying a number of the enemy's military vehicles," he said.
