Star power met purpose as Emily Hampshire, Andrea Martin and Jann Arden were honoured at the 18th annual Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) gala during the Toronto International Film Festival.
Held at the historic Windsor Arms Hotel, the celebration brought together familiar faces for an evening of heartfelt tributes, surprise performances and even a little puppy love. Together, guests raised more than $700,000 for education and community-led initiatives in Haiti.
One of the evening's highlights was Andrea's acceptance of the Global Artists for Peace and Justice Award: the 79-year-old stage and screen legend surprised guests with a rap written for her by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Better yet, she performed it as her iconic SCTV character, Edith Prickley!
“No matter who you are or how old you are, it’s never too late to get out there and help,” she urged the crowd.
From Andrea's rap to a touching Schitt's Creek moment it was definitely a night to remember ...

APJ's ride-or-dies
The evening’s MCs, Kardinal Offishall and George Stroumboulopoulos, posed with author Eric Hendrikx and his wife, APJ board chair Natasha Koifman. Behind the celebrations was an urgent message from Natasha about the dangers facing children amid Haiti’s escalating gang violence. “Believing in a better future is no longer enough,” she said. “We have to be the lifeline that helps pull these children out of danger.”
