What happens when students are given more than a classroom in which to learn? What happens when they are given a platform to speak, question, listen, and share ideas that matter to them?
At Sekolah Victory Plus (SVP), a leading IB World School in Indonesia, learning extends beyond textbooks and classrooms. It is about developing students who are curious, reflective, principled, and ready to contribute to the world around them. One way this comes to life is through TEDxSVP—an independently organised TEDx event that brings ideas, perspectives, and student voices together on one stage.
Different Voices, One Stage
Sekolah Victory Plus has organised four TEDxSVP events, bringing students, experts, professionals, and inspiring speakers together to explore meaningful ideas.
While the speakers come from different backgrounds and bring a range of experiences to the stage, TEDxSVP has one shared purpose: to create a space where ideas can be explored, perspectives can be exchanged, and voices can be heard.
For SVP students, however, TEDxSVP is more than an event to watch.
Students can take part as speakers, performers, hosts, organisers, and members of the TEDxSVP team. They are given opportunities not simply to participate, but also to make decisions, contribute ideas, take responsibility, and help shape the event itself.
The Learning Behind the Stage
A talk at TEDxSVP may last only a few minutes, but the learning behind it begins long before a student steps onto the stage. Students learn to identify an idea worth exploring, research it carefully, question their own assumptions, organise their thoughts, and communicate a message that others can understand and connect with.
Along the way, they practise public speaking, build confidence, receive feedback, listen to different perspectives, and learn what it means to take responsibility for an idea they believe is worth sharing on the TEDxSVP stage.
And the learning is not limited to the speakers.
Students working behind the scenes experience what it takes to bring a large event to life. They collaborate with others, solve unexpected problems, manage their time, pay attention to detail, think creatively, and adapt when plans change.
These are skills that cannot always be measured through a test. They are skills students carry with them into university, their future careers, and the wider world.
From Voice to Action
In an IB education, learning is not only about what students know. It is also about what they can do with that knowledge. At TEDxSVP, this philosophy becomes visible.
A student who once had an idea becomes a speaker. A student who was hesitant to speak discovers the confidence to share a perspective. A student working behind the scenes discovers that their contribution can help shape something much bigger than themselves.
TEDxSVP is therefore more than an event on the school calendar. It is an extension of the learning culture at Sekolah Victory Plus, where students are encouraged to find their voices, make thoughtful choices, and take ownership of their learning and their impact.
Because when students are given the opportunity to use their voices, they do more than speak.
They learn to make their voices matter.
