The New Orleans Saints need a spark to their season, and the franchise’s owner may have just given it to them.
On Tuesday, Saints owner Gayle Benson sounded off on the frustrating season her team is having through five weeks of football.
“Our fans invest their time and their hearts in the Saints,” Benson said while speaking to the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club, via Katherine Terrell of ESPN. “They are right to expect more than we have delivered.”
Benson even name-dropped New Orleans head coach Kellen Moore, as she stressed what she expects of the team.
“Kellen Moore and his coaches are responsible for preparing our players to perform,” Benson added. “Mickey Loomis and our football staff are responsible for building a roster capable of sustained success. Our players are responsible for their preparation and execution.”
Saints Owner Speaks Out on Team’s Struggles in 2026 NFL Season
Benson’s comments came on the heels of New Orleans’ 23-13 loss at home at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Before that, the Saints let their fans down on a special day, losing to the Atlanta Falcons, 45-24, on the 20th anniversary of the Superdome’s reopening after Hurricane Katrina.
Clearly, things have to change for New Orleans if the team is going to stop its bleeding.
On the season, the Saints are 16th in the league with an average of 23.6 points per game, but their defense appears to be a much bigger problem, as the team’s stop unit is just 31st overall in the NFL with 30.2 points allowed per contest.
New Orleans will look to answer the call of its owner when it takes on the New York Giants in a Week 6 game this coming Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
