A great work bag has a lot to carry, literally and figuratively. It needs to fit your laptop, hold everything you need throughout the day, and look appropriate for whatever's on your calendar. While a roomy tote might be the obvious choice, there's a case to be made for the work backpack. For one, it distributes weight across both shoulders, making a laptop-heavy commute considerably more comfortable. And unlike the backpacks you might remember from school, today's options can hold their own in an office.
They're often better organized than the average handbag, too. Dedicated padded laptop sleeves, separate compartments, and easy-access pockets mean you don't have to empty your entire bag to find your keys. The trick is choosing one that looks as good as it functions. Supple leather and streamlined nylon are good places to start, particularly in shapes without excessive straps, buckles, or hardware. Black is an obvious choice, but burgundy and chocolate brown offer a little more personality without competing with your work wardrobe.
Ahead, we've rounded up 21 work backpacks that can accommodate a laptop without making you look like you're headed to class. Whether you're commuting to the office, traveling for work, or doing a little of both, these are the styles worth considering.
