ISLAMABAD – Petrol price in Pakistan increased by Rs1.20 per litre, while diesel prices have been reduced by Rs0.17 per litre under the latest petroleum price revision announced by the government.
According to a press release issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the revised prices took effect on October 15, 2026, following a review under the federal government’s petroleum pricing mechanism. Petrol, which was previously priced at Rs. 392.66 per litre, will now cost Rs. 393.86 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of diesel declined from Rs. 396.82 to Rs. 396.65 per litre.
New Petrol and Diesel Prices in Pakistan
| Petroleum Product | Old Price | New Price | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol (Motor Spirit) | Rs. 392.66 | Rs. 393.86 | +Rs. 1.20 |
| High-Speed Diesel (HSD) | Rs. 396.82 | Rs. 396.65 | −Rs. 0.17 |
The unexpected increase in petrol prices has been attributed to a sharp rise in the premium on petrol, which pushed the price upward despite earlier expectations of a reduction.
According to OGRA, changes in international market conditions, including Platts benchmark prices, petroleum premiums and other incidental costs, contributed to the latest adjustment.
The authority stated that the revised rates were determined in accordance with the petroleum pricing mechanism established by the federal government.
While petrol consumers face another increase, diesel users will receive a small reduction of 17 paisas per litre.
Pakistan Petrol Price Trends
| Date | Petrol Price per litre |
|---|---|
| October 14, 2026 | Rs. 392.66 |
| October 13, 2026 | Rs. 395.37 |
| October 12, 2026 | Rs. 398.30 |
| October 11, 2026 | Rs. 398.30 |
| October 10, 2026 | Rs. 398.30 |
| October 9, 2026 | Rs. 398.96 |
| October 8, 2026 | Rs. 396.65 |
| October 7, 2026 | Rs. 394.83 |
| October 6, 2026 | Rs. 393.64 |
| October 5, 2026 | Rs. 392.76 |
The latest figures show that petrol has declined by Rs. 6.30 per litre from its October 9 peak of Rs. 398.96 to Rs. 392.66 on October 14. However, when October 5 is used as the starting point, the net decrease over the 10-day period is just Rs. 0.10 per litre.
The difference highlights how quickly fuel prices have moved during October, with successive increases followed by reductions in recent days.
For motorists already paying nearly Rs. 393 per litre for petrol, the possibility of another price cut will be closely watched. A reduction of Rs. 2.30, if approved, could bring the petrol rate to approximately Rs. 390.36 per litre, assuming all other components of the price remain unchanged.
Diesel, currently priced at Rs. 396.82 per litre, could fall to approximately Rs. 396.65 if the projected reduction of Rs. 0.17 is approved.
The final decision now rests on the official petroleum price announcement. Until the revised rates are notified, the expected reductions should be treated as projections rather than confirmed prices.
