Hugo Taylor has opened up about the ‘considerable sadness’ he has experienced following the breakdown of his marriage to Millie Mackintosh, just days after she went public with her new boyfriend.
The former Made In Chelsea star, 40, has largely kept quiet about his separation from Millie, 37, since the couple ended their seven-year marriage earlier this year.
However, he has now addressed the split in an emotional statement, explaining that his priority remains providing a stable home life for their two daughters, Sienna, six, and Aurelia, four.
His comments come shortly after Millie made her first public appearance with new boyfriend Matthew Tanner, 38, whom she has also introduced to her Instagram followers.
Taking to Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Hugo explained why he had chosen not to discuss his divorce publicly until now.
‘I have refrained from making any personal public comment on the end of my marriage out of respect for our family’s privacy and the importance of maintaining stability for our daughters during a period of significant change,’ he wrote.
‘While the past year has brought considerable sadness, I remain grateful for what matters most in my life.
‘We share two wonderful young daughters, and my responsibility is to be the best father I can be, continuing to give them the love, security and consistency they deserve.’
He concluded: ‘I have been deeply moved by the kindness and support I have received from friends and family, and look to the future with faith and optimism.’
The statement follows a cryptic Instagram post from Hugo last week, in which he shared a passage from JRR Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring. ‘All that is gold does not glitter. Not all those who wander are lost. The old that is strong does not wither. Deep roots are not reached by the frost,’ the quote read.
While Hugo offered no explanation for the post, it came as his former wife appeared to be embracing a new chapter in her love life.
Millie was first spotted with Matthew, a Welsh fitness enthusiast and consultancy director, during a dog walk in Chelsea earlier this month.
The pair were photographed holding hands before making their first public appearance together at the opening of Boodles’ Old Bond Street flagship store last Thursday.
Millie subsequently made their relationship Instagram official, marking her first public romance since separating from Hugo. Her new partner, who goes by Matty, works as a Global Solutions Director and Programme Director at Robert Walters Consultancy.
Outside his professional life, he is a keen endurance athlete, having reportedly swapped amateur rugby for long-distance running after suffering a knee injury in 2025.
His Instagram profile details plans to compete in several demanding events, including the Barcelona Marathon and London Backyard Ultra in 2027, followed by the Marathon des Sables in Morocco in 2028.
Millie, who has frequently spoken about her own commitment to health and wellness, reportedly joined celebrity dating app Raya over the summer.
At the time, sources told the Daily Mail that she was in no hurry to enter another serious relationship, although she was keen to enjoy dating again.
In her profile, the former reality star reportedly listed ‘emotional intelligence’ among the qualities she finds most attractive in a potential partner.
It remains unclear how she and Matthew first met.
Meanwhile, Hugo and Millie’s separation marked the end of a relationship that had already survived one very public breakup.
The former couple first began dating in 2011 after meeting on Made In Chelsea, where their romance became one of the E4 show’s most memorable storylines.
Their initial relationship ended after just six months when Hugo’s infidelity with Millie’s then-best friend Rosie Fortescue was exposed.
The revelation prompted an explosive confrontation in which Millie famously threw a drink over Hugo during a scene that became part of Made In Chelsea history.
They subsequently went their separate ways, with Millie marrying rapper Professor Green, whose real name is Stephen Manderson, in 2013.
Following the end of that marriage in 2016, Millie rekindled her relationship with Hugo, and the pair eventually tied the knot in 2018.
They welcomed their daughters in 2020 and 2021 and went on to build a family life together in a lavish west London home.
But in February this year, it emerged that their marriage had come to an end, with the couple filing for divorce.
Their daughters now divide their time between their parents’ separate homes.
While Millie has begun a new relationship, Hugo’s latest statement suggests he is concentrating on fatherhood and finding his feet after what has evidently been a difficult year.
Despite the sadness surrounding the end of his marriage, he made clear that he is determined to approach the future with optimism.
