We have also said, regardless of today's meeting, that we are discussing, with several countries, the matter in connection with building a nuclear power plant. The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, Davit Khudatyan, on Friday told this to Armenian News-NEWS.am, referring to the fact that the matter of building a new nuclear power unit in Armenia was discussed today with an American delegation.
“We have talked also about the list of those countries, and we will recap in that way the [respective] proposal of the country that will be appropriate for our energy system and affordable within our financial capabilities,” Khudatyan added.
And to the question whether Armenia has discussed the matter of having a small module or a larger reactor, the minister replied: “The Republic of Armenia is interested in both small power units and traditional large power units, such as the Metsamor nuclear power plant now. We [i.e. Armenia] do not rule out also the matter of building a nuclear power plant with a greater capacity than that. We are discussing various proposals with various countries; when we will have a finalization [on the matter], we will tell about it."
