After Billy Brown died on February 7, 2021, from a seizure, the Brown family immediately faced significant challenges, including internal conflict, multiple marital separations, ongoing lawsuits, and the suspension of their reality show, Alaskan Bush People. The family dedicated subsequent seasons to his memory while continuing to live at their North Star Ranch in Washington state.

The family structure changed significantly: the eldest son, Matt Brown, remains estranged, living off-grid and making public accusations about the show's production. Bam Bam Brown largely maintained a private life. Bear Brown and his wife, Raiven, announced their split in April 2025 after welcoming three sons.

Noah and his wife, Rhain, also announced their separation in January 2025; they had previously requested a restraining order against Rain, which a judge dismissed. Bird Brown managed her health after doctors discovered non-cancerous tumours in 2022. Ami Brown survived a severe bout of pneumonia in early 2025.

Did Alaskan Bush People continue after Billy died?

Alaskan Bush People continued filming after Billy Brown's death in February 2021, with Seasons 13 and 14 airing through December 2022. Producers then halted production, and the show entered an indefinite hiatus, leaving fans uncertain about its future.

The network has not officially cancelled the series, and family members like Bear Brown insist it remains "on hiatus." They attribute the pause to the Discovery/Warner Bros. merger and ongoing legal disputes. Despite this, court filings tied to a $500,000 lawsuit against Billy's estate often describe the show in the past tense.

Although Discovery has avoided a formal cancellation, the absence of new episodes since 2022 strongly suggests the series has effectively ended. For now, the Browns continue to live privately while honouring Billy's legacy at North Star Ranch.

Did Discovery pay the Brown family?

The Discovery Channel did pay the Brown family for their participation in Alaskan Bush People, which was their primary source of income. Patriarch Billy Brown reportedly earned an estimated $500,000 per episode, while other adult family members earned between $40,000 and $60,000 per episode.

According to The Sun, the family's total net worth was estimated at around $60 million before Billy died in 2021. The Browns managed their earnings through their production company, Alaskan Wilderness Family Productions, but the financial control and distribution remain contested. A former business partner has sued Billy's estate for $500,000 in unpaid dues, naming Ami Brown as executor.

Estranged son Matt Brown has publicly accused his late father of withholding funds and criticised the show's production practices. Legal filings confirm Ami oversaw the flow of money into family accounts for shared expenses. Matt alleged that his father kept more than $300,000 from him, leaving him without financial support.

In April 2021, Matt claimed on Instagram that his time on the show contributed to his addiction struggles. He stated:

Everybody's told me that other people's secrets aren't mine to tell, but they're destroying me, and they've been destroying me for a long time. I'm cold, and I don't have any money. And I hardly have anything to eat.

Matt continued:

We made a lot of money off the show, and because my dad controlled everything, all the money went to him. I didn't have any money or anything. My dad kept that all.

Did Matt go to Billy's funeral?

It is unclear if Matt Brown physically attended his father, Billy's, private memorial service, but he was notably absent from the televised memorial episode of Alaskan Bush People.

The family held a small, private ceremony during Billy's cremation. Due to the ongoing estrangement between Matt and the rest of the family at the time, and the family's decision not to mention him on the show, fans widely noted his absence from the Season 13 memorial episode titled "One Last Dance, Da".
