Patrick Mahomes has a valuable opportunity to give his injured knee extra rest, but his wife, Brittany Mahomes, is busy making a different kind of impact in Kansas City. As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for their next NFL challenge, Brittany is helping the Kansas City Current attract a larger crowd for women's soccer.
The couple are focusing on separate goals, yet both remain closely connected to the city's sporting future. With Mahomes working towards his next appearance and Brittany pushing for greater support for women's football, their latest moves have put the spotlight on two sides of Kansas City's sports scene.
Patrick Mahomes gets extra recovery time ahead of Chiefs vs Chargers
Mahomes suffered a serious setback on December 14, 2025, when he tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
He underwent surgery the following day, beginning a demanding recovery process. The Chiefs quarterback has shown encouraging form since returning to action. Across Kansas City's first four games of the 2026 season, Mahomes recorded 1,037 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. His performance against the Indianapolis Colts stood out, as he threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns to help Kansas City secure a dramatic 33-30 overtime victory.
The Chiefs' early bye week now offers Mahomes additional time to manage his knee before the team faces the Chargers on October 18. The extra break could prove useful as Kansas City looks to maintain its unbeaten start and strengthen its position in the AFC West.Mahomes explained how the schedule benefits his recovery.“I mean for me just gives my knee an extra week just to rest and stuff like that,” Mahomes said.A victory over the Chargers would move Kansas City to 5-0, giving the team further momentum as it pursues another successful season.
However, managing Mahomes' health remains important as the Chiefs balance their ambitions with his recovery.
Brittany Mahomes targets 18,000 fans for Kansas City Current
While Patrick focuses on football, Brittany is helping the Kansas City Current expand its reach in women's soccer. The club wants to attract 18,000 fans for its October 25 home match against the Washington Spirit through an initiative called “One Current: Bigger Home. Bigger Future”.
The plan includes 12,000 spectators at CPKC Stadium and another 6,000 at Current Landing, where supporters can watch the match on large screens.
The aim is to bring more people into the women's game and create a stronger local fan base.Brittany brings personal experience to the effort. She played college soccer and spent a year playing professionally in Iceland before moving into business. The club is also planning food trucks, games and music to make the event appealing to families. Ground tickets will cost $10, while the first 10,000 attendees will receive a team flag. Fans will also have an opportunity to attend a watch party featuring the Chiefs' game against the Seattle Seahawks.Brittany's initiative could help the Current reach new supporters, while Mahomes works towards another important NFL test. Together, their efforts reflect Kansas City's growing ambitions across both men's and women's sports.
