Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the development of domestic energy sources as a cornerstone of his administration’s strategic agenda over the past two years.
According to the President, the government is promoting the use of biodiesel and bioethanol to reduce Indonesia’s reliance on imported fossil fuels.
"Global oil prices are rising and will continue to rise. Fortunately, we possess abundant alternative energy sources,” President Prabowo stated at the opening of a plenary cabinet meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.
“We still have significant coal reserves, extensive geothermal potential and, most importantly, the ability to produce diesel fuel from plants," he added.
Central to the government's energy independence strategy is the large-scale adoption of plant-derived biofuels to slash reliance on imported fossil fuels.
The President highlighted that Indonesia has successfully implemented the B50 biodiesel standard—a blend composed of 50 percent palm oil-based biofuel and 50 percent fossil diesel.
Building on this success, the administration is now aggressively advancing its bioethanol targets.
"We have reached the B50 standard, and we are now striving to achieve E50 for ethanol," he said.
President Prabowo stated that the development of bioethanol would be carried out in stages, with a target for an E10 ethanol blend this year, plans to increase this to E20 over the next two years, and eventually aiming for E50 two years thereafter.
"Once we reach the E50 and B50 levels, God willing, we will no longer need to import fuel from abroad," he concluded.
