KUALA LUMPUR: Doubles shuttler Teoh Mei Xing has retired without the farewell title she wanted, but with no regrets over the effort she devoted to badminton.
The 29-year-old's final appearance came in the mixed doubles at the Malaysia Super 100, where she partnered Tan Zhi Yang.
They lost 12-21, 21-17, 21-15 to South Korea's Jin Sung Ik–Lee Seung Hee in the first round at the Indoor Arena, EduCity Sports Complex, in Iskandar Puteri on Wednesday.
Despite the early exit, Mei Xing was grateful to have ended her career on home soil.
"I am grateful that my last dance is in Malaysia, but I am a bit disappointed that I didn't get a title before ending my badminton career," she wrote in a social media post.
"I am not a player who won a lot of major championships, but I have no regrets about the effort I put into my badminton career."
Mei Xing enjoyed success in women's doubles with Anna Cheong, winning the Czech Open in 2021 and the Super 300 Syed Modi International in 2022.
She later partnered Go Pei Kee, with the pair capturing the Malaysia Super 100 title in 2024.
After their partnership ended earlier this year, Mei Xing also played alongside Tan Zhing Hui.
Her mixed doubles partners over the years included Tee Kai Wun and Hoo Pang Ron, before she concluded her career alongside Zhi Yang.
In her farewell message, Mei Xing reserved special thanks for those who stood by her through difficult periods.
"It's okay if you don't know me. I just want to say thank you to everyone who supported me and always stood by my side, even though I had a lot of low periods.
"I am so lucky to have you guys."
She signed off on a cheerful note: "Lastly, happy retirement to me!"
