The Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced Ibrahim Kavuuma to three and a half years in prison for his role in a property fraud scheme in which a victim lost $205,556, equivalent to about Shs740 million.
The court also ordered Kavuuma to refund Shs70 million to the victim and forfeited Shs8,004,700, $2,000 and a motor vehicle recovered from him during his arrest. The assets are to contribute towards compensating the victim, according to the prosecution.
The case stems from an incident on July 15, 2025, when Kavuuma and other suspects, who remain at large, allegedly used forged property documents to convince the victim that they had legitimate ownership of the property.
The documents included a certificate of title, sale agreements and transfer forms, which were allegedly used to facilitate the fraudulent transaction.
“Through the fraudulent scheme, Kavuuma and his accomplices obtained USD 205,556, equivalent to approximately UGX 740 million, from the victim,” the prosecution stated.
Kavuuma was subsequently arrested by the Anti-Corruption Unit and charged with forgery, uttering false documents, obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering.
In addition to the prison sentence and compensation order, the court directed that the cash and vehicle recovered during his arrest be forfeited for the victim’s benefit.
“The recovered assets are to be used towards compensating the victim,” the prosecution added.
The other suspects implicated in the alleged scheme remain at large.
