Boko, Oct 17: Students of Dekachang Regional High School in Sontoli, under the Chamaria Legislative Assembly Constituency, staged a protest demanding the eviction of alleged encroachers from the school’s land.
The protest has raised safety concerns following allegations that petrol was thrown at the protesting students and that there was a plan to set them on fire. The allegations have not been independently verified.
According to information available, the school authorities purchased 67 lechas of land from Haji Mahuruddin in 1988. The land reportedly remained in the school’s possession for several decades. However, the family of the seller has allegedly attempted to reclaim the land by erecting barricades, triggering tension in the area.
The school authorities had reportedly submitted written complaints to the Samaria Revenue Circle Officer and Boko Police Station, seeking intervention to remove the alleged encroachment and protect the institution’s property.
The students took to the streets demanding the restoration of the school’s land, alleging that the dispute had remained unresolved despite the complaints.
The allegations of petrol being thrown at the students and a possible plan to set them ablaze have added to concerns over their safety. The school community has called for an impartial investigation into the allegations and appropriate action against those found responsible.
Students, teachers and local residents have also urged the administration to intervene in the land dispute and ensure that the educational institution’s property is protected. They stressed that students should be able to pursue their education without fear or intimidation.
The incident has drawn attention to the response of the local administration and police, with the school community seeking prompt action to resolve the dispute and safeguard the students.
The allegations surrounding the protest and the ownership dispute warrant a thorough investigation. No official response from the concerned authorities was available at the time of filing this report.
