Bangladesh have been fined 5% of their match fees for maintaining a slow over rate in their opening ODI against Zimbabwe in the tri-nation series in the United Arab Emirates.
The team was found to be one over behind the required rate after time allowances were taken into account during Saturday’s match in Abu Dhabi.
David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the penalty under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which stipulates a fine of 5% of players’ match fees for each over their team falls short of the required rate.
Bangladesh captain Towhid Hridoy admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, meaning no formal hearing was required.
On-field umpires Allauddin Palekar and Ijazatullah Safi, third umpire Ahsan Raza and fourth umpire Ahmed Shah Durrani levelled the charge against Bangladesh.
Bangladesh lost their opening match of the tri-nation series to Zimbabwe by 99 runs. They will face Afghanistan in their next match as they seek to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive.
