3M stock carries a bearish daily bias, with the close on Monday, October 19, 2026, beneath all three daily exponential averages. The positive daily MACD histogram, however, prevents a uniformly bearish reading. Reports published after the session about an Amazon partnership add news context that Monday’s closing chart does not capture. The session opened at $164.85, traded between a low of $161.95 and a high of $164.85, and closed at $162.01, against a previous close of $164.75.
Key takeaways
- 3M closed Monday at $162.01, down 1.66% from the previous close, finishing near the session low of $161.95.
- Price sits below the daily 20-session EMA ($164.44), 50-session EMA ($166.57), and 200-session EMA ($162.17).
- Daily RSI14 is 42.59, below the neutral 50 level; daily MACD histogram is positive at 0.29, offering a counterweight to the bearish price position.
- Hourly MACD line is -0.21, below its signal of 0.16, with a negative histogram of -0.36—confirming the bearish bias more directly than the daily chart.
- Next-session daily pivot sits at $162.94, with first resistance at $163.92 and first support at $161.02.
3M stock: Daily structure favors caution
The daily 20-session EMA stands at $164.44, below the 50-session EMA at $166.57 but above the 200-session EMA at $162.17. Price is beneath all three, although their order is not a fully bearish alignment. The 200-session average is the nearest overhead reference; the shorter averages mark further barriers to a bullish case.
Meanwhile, daily RSI14 stands at 42.59, below the neutral 50 level but not oversold. The daily MACD line is -1.49, above its signal at -1.79, with a positive histogram of 0.29. That relationship offers a counterweight to the bearish price position. However, the MACD line remains below zero.
The daily Bollinger mid-band is $164.82, with the lower band at $158.63 and the upper band at $171.01. The close sits between the lower and mid-bands, keeping the daily structure on the lower side of that envelope. Daily ATR14 reads $3.37, providing a volatility reference rather than a directional signal.
Hourly confirmation, with short-term timing risks
The hourly chart supports the bearish daily bias more directly. The session close sits below the hourly 20-hour EMA at $163.77, the 50-hour EMA at $163.59, and the 200-hour EMA at $165.78. Hourly RSI14 is 40.52, below 50.
The hourly MACD line of -0.21 is below its signal of 0.16, with a negative histogram of -0.36. Unlike the daily MACD relationship, this configuration offers no positive signal-line offset.
15-minute execution context
For execution timing, the 15-minute chart places the close below its 20-quarter-hour EMA at $163.25 and lower Bollinger band at $162.25. RSI14 is 34.76, approaching oversold territory. The MACD line is -0.33, below its signal at -0.30, while the histogram is -0.04. Notably, 15-minute ATR14 rose to $0.53 from $0.47, showing greater candle-level volatility than in the preceding reading. These measures concern timing, not a replacement for the daily bias.
Amazon reports sit outside Monday’s chart
Reports published after Monday’s close described an expanded Amazon data-center partnership and a warrant with vesting tied to product purchases. Another report described a planned investment in Taiwan’s Genius Electronic Optical. These reports belong to the post-session news context.
An earnings preview published during Monday’s session also covered third-quarter earnings and revenue forecasts, guidance, and PFAS lawsuit risk. This places the partnership coverage alongside earnings-related uncertainty, without establishing a cause for the session’s move.
Bullish and bearish conditions for the next session
The daily pivot for the next session sits at $162.94, with first resistance at $163.92 and first support at $161.02. These levels are calculated from the completed daily candle and apply when trading resumes.
Bullish scenario
For a bullish case, price would first need to reclaim the daily 200-session EMA at $162.17, then clear the next-session daily pivot at $162.94. A move through daily first resistance at $163.92 would strengthen that case. Further overhead references are the 20-session EMA at $164.44 and the Bollinger mid-band at $164.82. Hourly MACD moving above its signal would provide supporting confirmation.
Bearish scenario
Conversely, a break below the session low of $161.95 would leave next-session daily first support at $161.02 as the next downside reference. Failure there would undermine the bullish case, with the daily lower Bollinger band at $158.63 farther below.
Overall, 3M stock stands below its daily averages and next-session pivot, while daily ATR14 is $3.37. The hourly chart confirms the bearish bias, but daily MACD remains mixed. The unresolved question is whether subsequent trading can clear those overhead levels following the post-session reports.
