Patrick Mahomes gets response from former Patriots QB after record win
Patrick Mahomes matched Tom Brady’s record as the Chiefs prepared to face the Seattle Seahawks. Mahomes reached 100 career regular-season wins after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 22–6. He achieved the milestone in 131 career starts.
Mahomes completed 23 of 30 passes for 272 yards and threw one interception against the Chargers. The Chiefs’ defense recorded four sacks as the Chiefs improved to 5–0.
Brady also recorded his 100th regular-season win in his 131st start. In response to Mahomes matching his record, the former New England Patriots quarterback joked about the achievement before explaining that his main focus during the season had always been winning.
Brady said: “Pat tied some old retired guy’s record for fewest starts to reach 100 wins. We’ll reach out and see if we can get a comment on that. In the heat of the season, you’re just focused on the next game. There are so many records that come up and so many different statistics that are kept. The only thing I was ever focused on was winning, and I’m sure that’s what Pat’s focused on as well.”
Brady also ranked the Chiefs No. 2 in his power rankings following their 5–0 start.
Mahomes entered the milestone with 1,309 passing yards, nine touchdowns, three interceptions and a 66.5% completion rate during the 2026 season.
Mahomes said the record had been a frequent topic as he approached 100 wins, joking that each victory seemed to bring him level with Brady.
Mahomes speaks:“My honest first reaction is they’ve said this from 97 on. I’m like, ‘When did Tom lose another game?’ Because I feel every game I win, I tie him,” Mahomes said with a laugh in his postgame press conference. “But in all seriousness, it’s always an honor to be in any conversation as far as winning football with him. That’s the GOAT.”
Mahomes said he wanted to throw more touchdowns and improve his statistics. After forcing an early pass against the Chargers, he adjusted his approach and focused on finding the best way to win.
The Chiefs will next face the Seattle Seahawks, with Mahomes set to pursue his 101st regular-season win after reaching the 100-win milestone against the Chargers.
