The Green Bay Packers could soon get a much needed boost to its ground game with Josh Jacobs nearing a potential return in Week 7.
The Packers are working to bring the Pro Bowl back into the lineup, but his status for the next game remains unclear as he awaits clearance from the commissioner’s exempt list. Jacobs’ return would come at a crucial time for an offense averaging just 60.4 rushing yards per contest, the lowest mark in the league.
ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported on X(formerly Twitter) that Packers coach Matt LaFleur expects Josh Jacobs to practice Wednesday and get a full week of preparation. His availability for Sunday’s game against Detroit, however, remains undecided.
“We feel like he’s in a pretty good spot. He’s been training, but he’s missed the exposure to football,” commented the Packers head coach.
Josh Jacobs status for the Packers
Although Jacobs is set to rejoin practice, Green Bay has yet to confirm whether he will be active against the Lions.
Teammate Keisean Nixon believes Green Bay will look much different once Jacobs is back in the lineup and Parsons has recovered from his injury. While neither player’s return is fully settled, the Packers cornerback has made it clear that their eventual availability could give the team a substantial lift on offense and defense.

Jacobs’ expected return from the commissioner’s exempt list would be a welcome lift for a Packers ground game that ranks last in the league.
LaFleur’s plan to get him a full week of practice suggests the team wants him ready for real game action, not just a token appearance. Jacobs has been training, but missing football exposure means his timing and conditioning will need a short runway.
