Matric pupils at Meadowlands Technical High School described Mathematics Paper 1 as less difficult than their trial examination, although some found calculus and high-mark questions challenging.
Simran Sukraj of Montford said while there were a few difficult questions, overall the paper was good.
She said it was easier that the trial exams.
Sukraj said writing paper one has given her insight on how to prepare for paper two.
Despite experiencing a “stressful” matric year, Sukraj has maintained an overall B-aggregate.
She plans on studying Computer Science and would like to pursue a career in software development or information technology.
Yuvishka Singh said the paper was by far better than most exam papers she had written.
“I felt the calculus questions were difficult. They were level four questions and more difficult to solve,” said Singh.
The aspirant sonographer said a lot of studying and consistent work helped her get through the year.
Naomi Chetty said she while she felt the exam relatively easy, there were a few difficult questions that carried high marks.
She expects a good mark in the paper.
“I planned my learning around a personalised timetable that took the official examination timetable into account,” said Chetty.
She said her matric year was a busy one with much support from the school’s intervention and revision programmes over the holidays.
She hopes to take advantage of an apprentice opportunity from a major motor manufacturer that will see her qualify as an electrical engineer.
Matric pupils are expected to write mathematics paper two on October 26.
