By Zoila Palma: Certified Soil Doctors Sedella and Augustine of the Stann Creek District conducted their first farmer-to-farmer training at the Hopkins Cooperative, reaching 20 farmers as part of the rollout of the National Soil Doctor Training Programme.
The programme is implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) under the Global Soil Partnership, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE).
Building on their Training of Trainers at Central Farm, the Soil Doctors used hands-on demonstrations and Soil Doctor kits to teach farmers practical soil diagnostic techniques.
The training covered soil texture, pH and organic matter, along with sustainable soil management and climate-smart agricultural practices.
