For the first time in 44 years, the Milwaukee Brewers have won a World Series game. They took down the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night to claim Game 1 of the 2026 World Series. William Contreras played a major role in this victory.
Contreras had two hits on Friday night against Tampa Bay, while driving in a run. That run came in the first inning, but was big in the end. Milwaukee won by a narrow 3-2 scoreline to go up 1-0 in the 2026 World Series. After the game, the Brewers star received huge praise from manager Pat Murphy.
“If anyone doesn’t notice the contributions of Contreras, he was the player of the game. He was unbelievable,” Murphy said, via local radio host Vincent Hesprich.

Scoring was not a common occurrence on Friday night. The Brewers scored twice in the opening inning to give themselves a 2-1 lead. The Rays would cut this in half when Liam Hicks drove in a run in the fourth inning.
Jackson Chourio restored Milwaukee’s two-run lead in the seventh inning with a single. In the ninth inning, the Rays rallied and brought the game within a run again. However, it wasn’t enough, and Milwaukee defended home field for at least Game 1.
This series is far from over, though. These are the two best teams in baseball fighting for the game’s ultimate prize. The Rays roll over, and the Brewers certainly want that 2-0 series lead heading into Tampa Bay. These teams retake the field on Saturday night for Game 2 at Miller Park in Milwaukee.
