I genuinely thought I was ready for the autumnal nights to draw in: Sunday roasts beside a fire, a glass (or two… three?) of Malbec in a cosy countryside pub, and the comforting delusion that summer is still only a long weekend away.
That was before one final sun-soaked escape to Mallorca this month to celebrate my big 3-0 and the wedding of two wonderful friends. Having returned to a gloomy UK, I’ve come to the inconvenient realisation that living somewhere the temperature rarely dips below 18°C is incredibly appealing. Alas, responsibilities call, and a permanent move to sunnier shores will have to wait.
In the meantime, there’s always shopping. And let’s be clear: I mean clothes shopping, not the weekly food shop (which is absolutely not therapeutic). Since touching down at Gatwick, I’ve been endlessly scrolling for the new season’s arrivals in search of that much-needed dopamine hit.
If you’re an avid H! Fashion reader (or subscribed to my newsletter), you’ll already know that luxe for less is my shopping love language. I’m forever scouring the high street and mid-range brands for those investment-worthy-looking finds that give the illusion of designer price tags without the eye-watering cost. Because, really, who doesn’t love a little luxury for less?
From satin trench coats to classic handbags and the coolest animal print pieces, shop my favourite affordable piece for this season.

Satin Halter Top
Zara
A simple yet chic satin top is a surefire way to make an outfit look instantly more expensive. I love this Zara piece for less than £25.

Winona High Vamp Peep Toe Heeled Sandals
Topshop
Fancy footwear is all the rage this season, as our Fashion Features Editor Tania will explain to you in her Milan AW26 report. These Topshop shoes are guaranteed to put a spring (or autumn?) in your step.

Fluffy Funnel-Collar Jacket
H&M
This jacket is giving Cameron Diaz in The Holiday vibes, and I'm obsessed. A statement coat is great for zhuzhing up even the simplest of outifts.

Zebra Print Leather Slouchy Handheld Bag
Tu
This bag keeps selling out again and again - and it's clear to see why. The shape, design, and price point are *chefs kiss*

Shelby Cream Satin Belted Trench Coat
4th & Reckless
At this point, a satin trench is no longer a want for me - it's a need. There are so many high-end labels bringing out their own versions, and this piece is just as chic, for a fraction of the price.

Pure Cotton Checked Frill Shirred Peplum Shirt
M&S
This shirt looks like it's come straight from a cool-girl independent label in Copenhagen. I love the shirred, peplum waist to create a flattering silhouette.

Flowing Organza Blouse With Scarf Detail - Limited Edition
Massimo Dutti
I love the fluid silhouette and delicate champagne hue of this Massimo Dutti blouse, which feels elegant without trying too hard. The scarf detail, voluminous sleeves and sheer silk fabric give it a luxurious, fashion-forward feel.

Arlet Crossbody Turn Lock Handbag, Brown
Charles & Keith
I love the rich espresso-brown shade and structured silhouette of this bag. Whether purchasing for yourself or as a gift, it's contemporary yet totally timeless.
