One of the Algarve’s most spectacular motorsport challenges is returning to Silves, promising another morning of roaring engines, steep climbs and plenty of failed attempts to reach the top.
The Subida Impossível – or “Impossible Climb” – takes place on Sunday, November 8 from 9.30am, alongside the Municipal Road 502 towards the Quinta Pedagógica de Silves educational farm.
Organised by the Moto Clube de Albufeira, with the support of Silves Council, the event challenges riders and their machines to conquer an exceptionally steep uphill course.
Previous editions have featured a climb of around 100 metres, with gradients exceeding 80% in places, illustrating just how appropriate the event’s name really is.
Indeed, organisers describe it as the most famous “Impossible Climb” in the Iberian Peninsula, joking that it is a challenge reserved for “the best riders and machines” – and one where even spectators “need courage to watch”.
Cash prizes of up to €1,000 will be awarded to the best-performing riders.
Registrations remain open until November 4.
More than just the climb
Away from the action, the event area will feature food and drink stalls as well as exhibitors from the motorcycle industry showcasing bikes, equipment and merchandise.
Younger visitors will also get an introduction to the sport through the Infantário do Motocross, an initiative designed to show children the first steps involved in getting onto a motocross track.
Tickets to the event cost €3, with €1 going towards charity.
