The Osun state police command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Adeyemo Mukaila, for the alleged rape of a young girl in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.
In a statement issued Wednesday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, the police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, revealed that the suspect is a friend of the victim’s grandmother and a frequent visitor to their home.
According to the statement, the abuse occurred on two separate occasions.
“Sometime in September 2026, the suspect called the victim to retrieve some items for him. When she arrived at his house, he dragged her into his room, removed her underwear, and had canal knowledge of her.
“Furthermore, on October 2nd—which was the victim’s birthday—she gladly informed him of the occasion and asked for a birthday gift. The suspect gave her one thousand naira (N1,000) and simultaneously demanded a gift in return. The victim went to buy him biscuits and took them to his workshop around the Ilupeju area of Ikire.
“The suspect then dragged her into a nearby bush and had canal knowledge of her again. When he noticed that people had spotted them, he fled into the bush. Commuters intercepted the victim, asked what had happened, and upon hearing her account, pursued the suspect, arrested him, and handed him over to the police,” the statement added.
The command urged members of the public, particularly parents, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station or through official emergency channels.
