ISLAMABAD: Secretary General of the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP-P) Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari has paid glowing tribute to the martyrs of the Karsaz tragedy, saying that the martyrs of democracy are the pride of the nation and an enduring symbol of sacrifice for democratic ideals.
Bukhari said in his statement on Saturday that on October 18, 2007, a brutal mindset launched an attack on democratic thought. He said that the 177 martyrs and 750 injured party workers of the Karsaz tragedy would always remain a source of pride for the democratic movement.
He said that devoted followers of democracy laid down their lives for Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. She and the martyrs of democracy represent a glorious and unforgettable chapter in Pakistan’s history. Their sacrifices will always be remembered with honour and respect. Recalling Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s historic resolve, Bukhari said, “How many Bhuttos will you kill? A Bhutto will emerge from every home.” He said that her words continue to serve as a guiding light for democratic forces.
Bukhari said that the continuity of democracy is the legacy of the martyrs of democracy and those who stood firm in the struggle for democratic rights.
Shaheed Benazir Bhutto continues to live in the hearts of the people, while anti-democratic thinking has been consigned to the dustbin of history.
He said that the Pakistan Peoples Party has made unparalleled sacrifices for national stability, the supremacy of the Constitution, the dignity of Parliament, and the protection of democracy. The party’s leadership and workers have nurtured the tree of democracy with their blood.
Bukhari reaffirmed that the struggle for constitutional supremacy, democratic stability, and the dignity of Parliament would continue under the leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. He added that the party would remain committed to safeguarding constitutional, human, and economic rights.
Paying tribute to all those who sacrificed their lives for democracy on October 18, 2007, Bukhari said that their sacrifices would remain an enduring source of inspiration for generations to come.
