Credicorp Capital has maintained its growth projections for the Peruvian economy—3.2% for 2026 and 3% for the coming year—though remains attentive to further information regarding the impact the El Niño phenomenon may have on Peru’s productive activity.
“We recently reviewed our projections, setting them at 3.2% for this year and 3% for next year. These figures already account for a reduction of nearly two percentage points in growth due to the El Niño phenomenon,” Daniel Velandia, Chief Economist at Credicorp Capital, told the Andina news agency.
“A two-percentage-point reduction is significant; while a larger decline would be an extreme scenario—which we are not currently factoring in—the bias could lean toward the downside,” he added.
Daniel Velandia noted that while the El Niño phenomenon clouds the outlook, the medium-term prospects for the Peruvian economy remain favorable.
“By January, we will likely have more information to determine the true impact of the El Niño phenomenon,” he stated.
“We are comfortable with the 3% projection for next year, though we acknowledge it could end up being slightly lower, depending on the intensity of the El Niño phenomenon,” he explained.
The Credicorp chief economist noted that governance will remain a challenge for Peru, and the possibility of populist measures cannot be ruled out; however, the outlook for greater political stability has improved significantly.
“The initial response has been a reduction in uncertainty regarding economic policy, which has, in turn, improved business sentiment and investment confidence,” he pointed out.
