Strategy could expand its bitcoin holdings after Michael Saylor posted another orange-themed buying hint. His latest message follows a $28.7 million acquisition, while the company balances cryptocurrency purchases with cash commitments to shareholders and creditors.
Key Takeaways
- Saylor’s Oct. 11 message hints at another Strategy bitcoin purchase.
- His chart displays 848,000 BTC valued at $70.48 billion.
- The graphic records 117 purchase events across the company’s history.
Saylor Signals There Is Room for More Bitcoin
Another bitcoin acquisition may be coming from Strategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR), following a new signal from Executive Chairman Michael Saylor. On Oct. 11, he shared his latest bitcoin buying hint on X alongside a chart marking the bitcoin treasury company’s past purchases with orange circles. Saylor wrote: “There’s always room for more orange.”
The accompanying chart displays 848,000 BTC valued at $70.48 billion, with an average acquisition cost of approximately $75,441 per coin. Its bitcoin purchase history lists 117 purchase events, connecting the latest teaser with the company’s accumulation record. The graphic plots purchases against BTC’s price and a separate line tracking the average cost of its holdings.
The reserve value represents a market-price snapshot, so bitcoin’s price movements can change it independently of transactions. The displayed coin balance matches Strategy’s disclosed holdings as of Oct. 4. Any subsequent transaction update would establish whether Saylor’s latest signal corresponds to another purchase.
Earlier Orange Posts Preceded Confirmed Purchases
Saylor’s latest wording continues a sequence of Sunday messages that have preceded formal updates about Strategy’s bitcoin transactions. His previous orange-themed buying hint appeared Oct. 4, when he wrote, “More orange than ever.” That chart showed 847,666 BTC, reflecting the company’s disclosed balance before its next acquisition update.
The following morning, Strategy reported a 334 BTC purchase that lifted its holdings to 848,000 coins. The acquisition occurred between Oct. 1 and Oct. 4 and cost $28.7 million, including fees and expenses. Its average price of approximately $85,839 exceeded the company’s average purchase price across its holdings.
A similar sequence unfolded in September, providing a precedent for interpreting the latest post as a buying hint. His earlier signal about adding more orange appeared Sept. 27, following a 950 BTC purchase disclosed Sept. 21. Strategy subsequently reported acquiring another 1,665 BTC during the week ended Sept. 27.
Saylor’s Buying Hint Follows a Purchase Funded by Shares and Cash
Strategy’s latest confirmed acquisition combined proceeds from newly issued common shares with cash already available to management. Its bitcoin transaction and capital update shows that $15.7 million came from MSTR stock sales, while $13 million came from its dollar cash balance. The company’s total acquisition cost reached approximately $63.97 billion.
That commitment to holding BTC aligns with Saylor’s broader argument that the cryptocurrency provides a way to hold economic value under digital control. His description of bitcoin’s most profound breakthrough in August centered on converting economic value into digital form that individuals, companies, machines, and governments can control.
The company’s dollar balances also support commitments beyond buying BTC, including preferred-stock dividends and interest on outstanding debt. As of Oct. 4, Strategy maintained a $4.88 billion reserve intended for those payments and another $833.4 million in cash available for broader corporate purposes, including BTC acquisitions and capital management.
