Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna used the solemn occasion of Ambassador Burudi Nabwera's requiem mass on Wednesday, October 21, to make a direct and personal appeal to Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera, calling on his former ally to join the Linda Mwananchi movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking at Lang'ata Friends Church in Nairobi during the service, Sifuna addressed Nabwera directly from the podium, acknowledging that their political paths had drifted apart despite a previously close friendship forged within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Sifuna's public appeal to Nabii Nabwera
"Politics is very interesting because Nabii used to be my friend," Sifuna told the congregation. "Because of the nature of our politics, I don't remember the last time I saw Nabii. In fact, when I saw him today, it's been almost a year since I saw Nabii."
The senator, who is currently positioning himself as a presidential candidate under the Linda Mwananchi banner, attributed the distance between them to the toxic culture within Kenyan politics, where association with certain figures carries reputational consequences.
"Our politics is so petty that sometimes being seen with some of us, you are branded — they say now you are hanging out with Sifuna, you are now a bad person," he said, before turning directly to the lawmaker. "I want to say in this church, I miss my friend. Nabii, do not pretend you have not heard me. I miss my friend. You know the things that we have done together, you know the journey that we have done together in ODM, and if it was up to me, even the journey that we are on right now, I would want Nabii by my side."
Personal ties to Kakamega and a future ask
Sifuna went further, disclosing personal ties to Nabwera's constituency. The senator revealed he was born and educated in Kakamega, that his mother hails from the region, and that Nabwera is in fact the MP representing the area where his maternal family lives.

"When he was looking for votes, I was there with him in my uncle's home, telling them that this is a good man. Please elect him," Sifuna said, before delivering what amounted to an open political proposition. "Nabii knows those uncles will come to you again because this time around, we are looking for something and we need you to support us at that time."
The two men previously worked together within ODM until Sifuna's falling-out with the party's leadership culminated in his removal as ODM secretary general, after which he launched the Linda Mwananchi platform as a vehicle for his 2027 presidential bid.
The requiem mass also brought together other senior political figures, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
