PETALING JAYA: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today announced that the Sarawak Legislative Assembly would be dissolved effective Oct 26.
The dissolution will pave the way for the Election Commission (EC) to set the dates for nomination and polling.
The 82-seat assembly held its final sitting of the current term last Wednesday, during which the Sarawak 2027 Budget was passed.
The current term was due to expire in February 2027.
The last Sarawak state election was held on Dec 18, 2021, with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) securing a landslide victory by winning 76 of the 82 seats contested.
Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) won four seats, while DAP secured two.
