The Cleveland Guardians’ hot streak continued on Monday night as they earned their fourth-consecutive victory of the postseason with a 7-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of the ALCS. That contest encapsulated the Guardians’ postseason run thus far. They went down early against the Rays, with Tampa Bay scoring two runs in the first inning, but they kept at it and stayed in the game, leaving enough time for their bats to catch on fire.
Game 1 starter Foster Griffin did allow two runs in 4.0 innings of work, but the Guardians’ bullpen did well behind him — allowing just one run in the remaining five innings of play. What makes this team so good is that they’re never rattled, and when facing adversity, all they do is be resilient and play their own brand of baseball.
“I mean, we’re just gonna play our game. We’re gonna play Guardians baseball. We’re gonna stick to what we know, stick to what we do good. And we’re gonna keep going,” Griffin said in his postgame interview, via the official MLB account on X. “I feel like they caught us at a tough time. We’re playing really well right now, especially to get a game on the road.”

Griffin was on the receiving end of some hard-hit balls from the Rays early in the game. Some fortunate contact on the Rays’ end ended up driving in those runs. Nonetheless, he stayed composed and held Tampa Bay scoreless for his final three innings of work.
“I felt pretty good about my stuff,” Griffin added. “(I) just tried to keep us in the game. Keeping it at a minimum, and go as deep as I could. And then our offense took over.”
Parker Messick will look to keep it going for the Guardians on the mound on Tuesday as he starts Game 2 of the ALCS for Cleveland on the road.
