Inde Navarrette revealed a sneak peek at her Rogue accent in a new video featuring her take on the X-Men hero's iconic "sugah" catchphrase, but she's willing to "work on it" if fans don't like it.
One of the many stars confirmed to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) X-Men reboot movie gave fans a taste of the big reveal that everyone's been waiting on: her take on Rogue's accent. Navarrette offered just a single "sugah" when asked for a tease during an interview with Etalk at TIFF 2026 last month.
The Obsession breakout admitted she's not "done a lot of practice" when it comes to her Rogue preparation, but it looks like she has spent at least some time fitting a more recognizable word from her vocabulary into her performance. You can see the clip of Navarrette in question below.
Rogue is known for her sense of style and power-sapping abilities, but it might be her accent that fans know her for best. With Navarrette confirmed to play the Mississippi-born mutant when X-Men joins the MCU in 2028, fans have been dying to hear what she'll sound like – and she knows it.
In September, she assured Rogue fans that she was putting in the work to, above all else, nail that Southern delivery. Part of her plan to do so involved planning a trip to Mississippi at some point in the future, saying at the time that "Southern women are really my favorite." She also went on to say that she was "doing everything humanly possible" to do Rogue justice because she "loves that character."
Rogue has appeared in animated and live-action form before, but her introduction into the MCU could be her most important portrayal yet. Navarrette is all too aware of what she and her roots mean to fans, so if you don't like that quick "sugah" she teased last month, she promised she'll iron out the kinks with Marvel Studios.
"I that, you know, I'm going to work on it if you don't like it," she said, "and I'm going to figure out and talk to the Marvel team on what we want to do."
Following months of Mystique rumors, Navarrette was confirmed to play Rogue when Marvel appeared for a special announcement at D23 in August. She was joined by a host of other cast confirmations, including Christopher Abbott as Professor X and Maya Boyd as Storm, too. Asa Germann was cast as Angel not much longer after.
X-Men will reimagine classic Marvel superheroes for the big screen when it comes to theaters May 5, 2028. Until then, you can see how Rogue's animated voice actor, Lenore Zann, reacted to Navarrette's casting.
