Lam Research stock carries a bearish daily bias, with Wednesday’s close below its key exponential averages and daily momentum below neutral. The hourly chart mostly confirms this stance, though a positive MACD histogram prevents a uniformly bearish reading across timeframes. Lam Research opened at $270.90, traded between a low of $259.04 and a high of $270.90, and closed at $260.81, against a previous close of $263.45.

Lam Research stock: daily structure favors the bearish case
The close sits below the 200-session EMA at $275.40, the 20-session EMA at $295.28, and the 50-session EMA at $304.37. These averages represent overhead barriers, although their ordering does not form a fully bearish stack. The daily chart therefore favors a bearish stance without presenting complete alignment among the averages.
Meanwhile, daily RSI14 stands at 31.78, approaching oversold territory but still above 30. The daily MACD line is -11.48, below its signal at -4.17, while the histogram is -7.30. That combination supports the bearish bias rather than a bullish momentum reading.
The daily Bollinger lower band is $253.17, with the mid band at $308.04 and the upper band at $362.92. The close is above the lower band and below the mid band, placing it in the channel’s lower half. Daily ATR14 reads $14.15, providing a volatility reference rather than a directional signal.
Earnings coverage published after the session
Separately, a Seeking Alpha report published on Thursday, October 22, said Lam projected more than $200 billion in 2027 wafer-fabrication equipment spending. That coverage appeared on a later day than Wednesday’s session.
Hourly confirmation carries a MACD qualification
On the hourly chart, the close sits below the 20-hour EMA at $267.22, the 50-hour EMA at $278.25, and the 200-hour EMA at $297.88. Price and these averages form a bearish stack. Hourly RSI14 is 35, below neutral but above oversold territory.
In contrast, the hourly MACD line at -4.13 is above its signal at -4.42, producing a positive histogram of 0.29. That is the main counterweight to the bearish daily reading. However, the hourly histogram declined to 0.29 from 0.47 in the preceding hourly candle, limiting that counterweight.
Short-term timing and next-session scenarios
For execution context, the 15-minute chart also has a bearish stack beneath the 20-period EMA at $263.57. The 50-period EMA is $265.59 and the 200-period EMA is $281.99. RSI14 reads 38.73, below neutral, while the MACD line of -1.28 is below its signal at -0.97. The close remains above the 15-minute lower Bollinger band at $259.11, a nearby short-term reference rather than evidence of bullish confirmation.
Next-session levels
When trading resumes, the daily pivot for the next session sits at $263.58. Daily first resistance is $268.13, and daily first support is $256.27. These levels are calculated from the completed daily candle and apply to the next session.
Bullish scenario
A bullish scenario requires a move above the next-session daily pivot at $263.58, followed by daily first resistance at $268.13. Clearing the daily 200-session EMA at $275.40 would provide further support. Until those barriers are cleared, the daily averages and MACD leave the bullish case unconfirmed.
Bearish scenario
Conversely, a break below the session low at $259.04 would undermine the bullish case. The next lower references are next-session daily first support at $256.27 and the daily lower Bollinger band at $253.17. Holding above those levels alone would not resolve the overhead resistance.
Overall, Lam Research stock stands below the next-session daily pivot and all three daily averages, but above the session low and daily lower band. ATR14 at $14.15 frames the volatility backdrop. The unresolved question is whether the positive hourly MACD histogram can accompany price strength sufficient to challenge the bearish daily structure.
