Morocco has opened bids for national and international companies, investors, and consortia interested in developing a tourist cable car project in Fez after Agadir’s successful experience.
The aerial transport link project, the second of its kind in the country, will enable tourists to have panoramic views of the city’s historic medina while providing an additional mobility option.
According to the Regional Investment Centre of Fez-Meknes region, the design of the cable car project should be tailored to the area’s landscape and heritage, putting emphasis on the protection of the medina and its surroundings.
The tender covers the design, construction, and operation of the cable car system. The selection process will take place in two phases, beginning with a pre-selection stage and followed by a final selection of shortlisted candidates.
During the first phase, applicants will be assessed based on their previous experience, a preliminary technical feasibility study, and an initial financial feasibility assessment. Short-listed Candidates will proceed to the final selection phase, which will require detailed project proposal.
Agadir has built Morocco’s first cable car system offering riders a unique experience, a breathtaking panoramic view of the city, the sea, and the mountains at an altitude of over 1,756 meters.
The journey, lasting between 7 to 14 minutes, takes visitors from the lower city foothills near the Tildi Bridge (Danialand base station) up to the historic Agadir Oufella Kasbah ruins. The modern glass cabins offer a 360-degree panoramic view of Agadir Bay, the local marina, the Atlantic Ocean, and the surrounding Atlas mountains. The cabins are fully adapted for strollers and wheelchairs.
