BUTTERWORTH: A 25-year-old babysitter has been remanded for seven days to assist investigations into the death of a 10-month-old boy who was found weak at her home yesterday.
Magistrate Aini Adilah Muhammad Faizal issued the remand order, effective today, to allow police to investigate the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
The suspect, wearing a black headscarf and a long-sleeved T-shirt, arrived at the court accompanied by police personnel for the remand proceedings.
The baby was found weak and unresponsive at the babysitter's home at about 9.50am yesterday.
The child's mother is believed to have sent him to the babysitter's house at about 5.40am, when he was in good health.
The babysitter later sought her husband's help to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before the baby was taken to Sungai Dua Health Clinic for further treatment.
However, the baby is believed to have died before reaching the clinic.
His body was taken to hospital for a post-mortem, while the cause of death remains under investigation.
