Police uncovered hidden cupboards containing illicit goods, large quantities of counterfeit products and a cannabis-growing operation during a series of raids across Doncaster.
Officers from South Yorkshire Police joined forces with City of Doncaster Council's Trading Standards team to execute a number of warrants across Hexthorpe on Thursday (Oct 15).
Doncaster Central Neighbourhood Policing Team officers were supported by specialist officers from the Tactical Support Unit, who assisted with entering and searching properties.
During the searches, officers discovered illicit items concealed inside secret cupboards and large quantities of counterfeit goods hidden in the back of shops.
A cannabis-growing operation was also uncovered at a property, with officers removing and seizing all the plants.
Police warned that counterfeit products can pose serious health risks because their ingredients may be unregulated, untested or contain toxic chemicals.
Officers also highlighted concerns that the production and sale of illicit goods can be linked to wider criminal activity and organised criminal networks.
Following the warrants, additional teams from South Yorkshire Police and the council carried out further checks relating to immigration, financial matters and child exploitation.
Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant Maw said: “We want the best for our communities, we want everyone to be safe from harm, and part of that is ensuring that criminal products do not put lives in danger.
“Behind every fake item is the potential for injury, harm or death and every pound spend fuels those who exploit, intimidate and harm our communities, and that will not be tolerated.
“We will continue to work with colleagues across other agencies to remove dangerous products from our streets and hold those responsible accountable.”
The police statement did not specify the number of properties searched, the quantity of counterfeit goods seized or whether any arrests were made.
