The Chairperson of the Political Parties Council (PPC), Engineer James Akol Zakayo, says the council has not received a formal complaint from two political parties over changes to their leadership records, while the parties say their attempts to contact him to resolve the matter were unsuccessful.
Speaking yesterday, Zakayo said concerns involving political parties should be raised through established channels rather than through the media.
“These are internal matters that need to be done within the party. Yes, we regulate parties and if there are matters to do with political parties, they must be raised in the channels that are agreed and we have not received any formal complaint from them,” Zakayo said.
He added that the council would respond once it received a formal complaint, saying, “But we don’t handle our matters in the media.”
However, the National Democratic Movement (NDM) and the South Sudan National Movement for Change (SSNMC) say they tried to contact Zakayo after a new list began circulating on September 23, 2026, but were unable to reach him.
Joseph Bol Agau, the NDM secretary, said the party subsequently contacted the PPC Secretary-General, who initially said he was unaware of the matter but would investigate.
“Shortly afterwards, the Secretary-General confirmed that the changes were authentic, stating that they resulted from a decision by the PPC chairperson,” Agau said.
He added that the Secretary-General sent the NDM chairperson a copy of the order implementing the changes.
The two parties have previously accused the PPC of altering their leadership records after registration, describing the alleged changes as a violation of the Political Parties Act. They have petitioned the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs over the matter.
