Religious authorities and police are investigating a viral video allegedly depicting a Muslim individual participating in a non-Islamic ritual.
PUTRAJAYA: The investigation into a viral video allegedly showing a Muslim individual participating in a non-Muslim religious ritual has been referred to the relevant authorities, including state Islamic religious departments, for further action.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the parties concerned would provide updates on the investigation after obtaining complete information on the matter.
“We are leaving the investigation to the religious authorities for now, and God willing, they will provide updates on the investigation,” he told reporters after attending the MADANI Knowledge Assembly with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim here today.
The event, organised by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), began with welcoming remarks by Zulkifli before an opening lecture by Turkish Islamic scholar Sheikh Prof Dr Muhammad Fadhil al-Jilani al-Hasani on Imam al-Ghazali’s interpretation of Surah Yusuf.
Zulkifli said the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) were also continuing their monitoring efforts and raising public awareness of the issue.
JAKIM director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee was previously reported as saying that the department had coordinated appropriate action involving state Islamic religious departments and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), in accordance with their respective jurisdictions and the applicable laws.
