The Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (CAAB) has installed 32 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and 18 monitors at eight baggage belt areas at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to improve passenger services and strengthen transparency and accountability in baggage handling.
The authority disclosed the initiative in a statement published on its Facebook page today (17 October).
Under the new system, passengers will be able to monitor the baggage-handling process live after arriving at the airport.
The 65-inch monitors will display footage of the entire process, from unloading luggage from aircraft and transporting it to designated areas to sorting it and placing it on the baggage belts for collection.
The initiative is expected to give passengers a clearer picture of how their luggage is handled and provide them with information at different stages of the collection process.
CAAB expects the technology-based system to significantly improve transparency, efficiency and accountability in baggage management.
The authority said it remained committed to protecting passengers' interests, ensuring safe and comfortable travel, and developing airport management in line with international standards.
It added that efforts to expand technology-driven, passenger-friendly services would continue to ensure that all travellers, including expatriate workers and both domestic and foreign passengers, could collect their luggage smoothly and without unnecessary hassle.
The initiative is expected to play an important role in improving the overall quality of passenger services at the country's main international airport.
