ByteDance's AI work assistant Doubao Work has added a data import and sync feature, letting users bring their existing setups and conversations over from other AI products instead of starting from scratch. The update was announced on October 14.
Users can import task preference instructions, skills, connectors, working memory, projects and past chat sessions with one click. Supported sources include ChatGPT, Claude Code and TRAE Work. The feature imports content that those products store locally, and the imported items are automatically filed under the matching sections in Doubao Work. Imported conversations keep their original context, so users can continue them directly without reconfiguring tools or explaining the background again.
The feature sits under a Data Import and Sync page in Settings. For sources that support it, users can also turn on automatic syncing as needed, rather than doing a one-time transfer.
The same update adds several changes to how conversations work. A Continue in New Chat option on any message carries the existing context into a fresh conversation while keeping the original thread intact for reference. ByteDance says this is meant for trying a different approach or switching to another model without mixing several lines of thought in one thread.
Users can now also highlight specific parts of a reply and attach annotations with extra notes or questions. The selected text and the note are placed together in the input box, and several highlighted passages can be sent at once, which ties a follow-up request to the exact text it refers to. A new conversation summary sidebar collects the tasks in progress, the files and other outputs produced in the conversation, and the skills and connectors in use, making it easier to track progress and find earlier results.
Doubao Work has been updated frequently in recent weeks. In September it added parallel multi-agent work and local computer control on Mac, and earlier this month it gained an infinite creation canvas.
