LSU men’s basketball coach Dale Brown has passed away today at the age of 90, according to an announcement from his family that was later confirmed by LSU.
Brown is the winningest coach in LSU history with 488 wins and 13 trips to the NCAA Tournament in his 25 years with the Tigers. He captured the SEC crown four times and made two trips to the Final Four.
He was named SEC Coach of the Year four times as well as being National Coach of the Year in 1981, one of his two trips to the Final Four.
Brown’s legacy was forever cemented was the court inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center was named for him in 2023.
We have lost the most loving and most loved man any of us has ever known,“ a statement from the family released by LSU said today. “Dale Brown always put others first. He always led with the heart. He was always a great humanitarian before anything else. Dale long ago fell in love with Louisiana. And the people of Louisiana loved him right back. We are forever grateful for that.”
One of Brown’s largest accomplishments at LSU is recruiting Shaquille O Neal, who went on to be the #1 pick in the 1992 NBA Draft and is regarded as one of the best forwards in the history of the game.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date.
