Police in Lira City are investigating the suspected suicide by hanging of a 38-year-old music producer whose body was discovered inside his studio on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Sam Lolo, was a resident of Ojwina Quarter Cell in Ojwina Ward, Lira City West Division.
North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema said the incident was reported to Ojwina Police Station at about 5pm.
According to police, Lolo arrived at his music studio at about 11am but did not emerge for several hours, prompting his friends to check on him.
They subsequently discovered his body hanging inside one of the rooms at the studio.
Police said preliminary findings indicate that Lolo had reportedly begun excessive alcohol consumption around May 2026, having previously been a born-again Christian. Investigators also established that he had exhibited signs of depression, although the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
“His friends reportedly attempted to counsel him, but their efforts did not yield the desired results,” Okema said.
The body was taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police urged people experiencing emotional distress, depression, alcohol-related challenges or other personal difficulties to seek assistance.
“We would like to urge members of the public experiencing emotional distress, depression, alcohol-related challenges or other personal difficulties to seek support from trusted relatives, friends, health professionals and appropriate support services,” Okema said.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
