After a challenging 6-11 season last year in which he suffered a season-ending knee injury, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are back to their dominant selves. They improved to 5-0 on the season with a 22-6 win over the winless Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6.
After the game, Mahomes shared some insight into how he thinks about football now after going from playing in so many Super Bowls to struggling and suffering a serious injury last season.
“Last year, to me, football in perspective. We played in so many Super Bowls, and especially those last few, it was like we, I don’t want to say coasted, but we didn’t play our best football in the regular season and we just turned it on in the playoffs. Even last year when stuff wasn’t going right, I was like, ‘We’re going to figure it out. It’s just gonna happen.'”

Mahomes says getting hurt changed his view on football as he now enjoys the process and the experience of playing much more.
“Last year put everything in perspective for me just to have fun when you’re out there,” Mahomes concluded.
After reaching an incredible five Super Bowls over a span of six years, the Chiefs suffered their first losing season since Mahomes became the team’s starting quarterback. Now, it seems Mahomes and the team are on a mission to get back to the top after last year’s lull. Through the first five games this season, Mahomes has thrown for 1,309 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions.
The addition of running back Kenneth Walker III has also helped to reinvigorate the Kansas City offense, giving Mahomes a reliable workhorse on the ground. The reigning Super Bowl MVP had another monster game with 127 yards and two touchdowns against the Chargers. He leads the league with 665 yards and is tied for fifth with six rushing touchdowns.
