PETALING JAYA: The ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah will hold its annual convention on Sunday, where delegates are expected to discuss preparations for the next general election (GE16).
GRS secretary-general Armizan Mohd Ali said the convention will take place at Dewan Tun Mustapha in Kudat, in line with the top leadership's decision to hold the annual gathering in different districts each year.
This year's convention is expected to be attended by about 3,000 participants and observers from all 26 parliamentary constituencies in Sabah, as well as from Labuan.
Armizan said the convention will gather central and divisional leaders on one platform for two key reasons - to discuss GRS's political strategy and preparation for GE16, and to evaluate the status of the state government's development efforts.
Grassroots leaders unable to attend the convention may submit their feedback and input online through a platform prepared by the GRS headquarters' secretariat, he said in a statement.
GRS chairman Hajiji Noor will deliver the keynote speech at the convention, while his six deputy chairmen will also address the delegates.
GRS comprises Hajiji's Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, Parti Bersatu Sabah, Upko, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, Parti Cinta Sabah, and the Liberal Democratic Party.
Last week, Armizan said GRS could win more than 15 parliamentary seats based on a simulation of the last state election’s results.
The coalition currently has seven MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.
