Oburu Oginga celebrates 83rd birthday in hospital
The elder statesman and brother of the late Raila Odinga marked the milestone birthday while receiving care at Nairobi Hospital, putting to rest earlier death rumours that had circulated online. Rather than a sombre occasion, the celebration turned into a heartwarming family affair, with both wives showing up to stand firmly beside him.
The sight of the two women not just present but actively celebratory together clearly resonated with many. Far from any tension or rivalry, the photo painted a picture of a household at peace with itself, something that struck a nerve with Kenyans who rarely see such harmony depicted in polygamous families.
The polygamous man thanked everyone who made his day special and his wives for their constant love and care.
"I want to express my deepest and most sincere gratitude to everyone who made today an unforgettable and beautiful surprise. Thank you to my loving spouses, Dr. Ann Oburu and Mama Judith Oburu, for your constant love, warmth, and care. Thank you to the dedicated Nairobi Hospital staff for your exceptional professionalism and kindness, and to the ODM fraternity, wonderfully represented today by Trustee Elder Joshua Kawino, for standing steadfastly with our family.," the 83-year-old Siaya senator said.
Kenyans praise Oburu Oginga's wives
The image spread quickly across social media, drawing thousands of reactions. A significant number of commenters used the moment to challenge the widely held view that polygamous marriages are inherently troubled. Many pointed to the visible solidarity between the two women as proof that such arrangements can, in the right circumstances, function with grace and mutual respect.
Others focused on the tenderness of Oburu feeding his first wife cake, reading it as a sign that despite the presence of a second wife, the bond with his first remained strong and publicly acknowledged.
The debate that followed touched on everything from tradition and culture to love and loyalty, with Kenyans on both sides sharing personal experiences and opinions passionately.

"Long live the king 👑."
David Otiendo said:
"Youth leader is very romantic."
Oburu Oginga has long been a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, closely associated with the Odinga political dynasty that has shaped the country's opposition landscape for decades. His birthday celebration, even from a hospital bed, reflected the larger-than-life presence he commands, not just politically, but within his own family.
Why Oburu Oginga married 2 wives
In a separate story, a video of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga explaining exactly why he chose to marry a second wife went viral, reigniting conversations about the politician's personal life.
Oburu made the remarks publicly, introducing both wives by name and sharing details about each woman's professional background during Raila Odinga's funeral in October 2026.
The senator's candid explanation, delivered to a crowd, drew laughter from those in attendance.
