Selena Gomez knows how to make a statement. At the annual Rare Impact Fund Gala this week, she wore red from head to toe—and that included her nails. While her red-carpet dress was bright scarlet and covered in gems, Gomez opted for ultra-glossy maroon nails to add some more dimension to the look. Her manicurist, Tom Bachik, called the look “Bordeaux jelly” in an interview with Cosmopolitan.

“We needed a shade that went with both of her gorgeous Prada gowns for the night, and Sel wanted a bit of color,” he said. “We chose a deep Bordeaux jelly red from Olive & June that gives the same depth of color as the stones on her red-carpet gown.”
This wine-inspired color is perfect for cooler weather. The polish in question is the shade “SC” from Olive & June (which the brand aptly describes as “deep bordeaux”). “This is such a great shade because of its versatility; it’s not too warm (orange) or too cool (purple),” Bachik told Cosmo. “It has a brightness to it while the semi-sheer effect gives it depth and dimension. It’s the best of both worlds since jelly effects and jewel tones are both trending.” Shades of red are also trending—just look to Anne Hathaway’s recent “cherry noir” nails.
